Joint WG Meeting on Green Electricity Certificates (GEC) with National Energy Administration and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute
On 28th September 2023, the European Chamber Energy Working Group and Enviornment Working Group co-organised the hybrid meeting on Green Electricity Certificates (GEC): Policy Updates and Industrial Exchanges and invited the officials and experts of relevant departments to discuss the latest policy updates on GEC, promote the exchange of the industry, and improve the green power consumption capacity of multinational companies.

The European Chamber, the Department of Science and Technology of Shanxi Province, the Multinational Corporation Carbon Neutrality Forum 50 (MNC50) and the Shanxi Research Institute of Huairou Laboratory jointly organised the "Panel Forum: Energy Transition and Low-Carbon Innovation" in Taiyuan, Shanxi on 7th September. This event was an integral part of the Coal Clean and Efficient Utilization Parallel Forum and the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum 2023. Zhonghua Xu, National Chair of the Energy Working Group hosted the forum.

On 3rd September 2023, the European Chamber supported the Global Green Development and Carbon Neutrality Thematic Conference under the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which was co-organised by International Green Economy Association (IGEA) and World Business Council of Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in China National Convention Centre in Beijing. Mr Ruixin Li, National Chair of the Carbon Market Working Group of the European Chamber, delivered a keynote speech in the High-level Thematic Roundtable: EU CBAM and China's Industrial Dual Circulation Strategy.

On 1st August, European Chamber Carbon Market Sub-working Group welcomed Director Liu Haiyan from the National Centre for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), Prof. Zhang Da from the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economics, Tsinghua University, and Ms. Yutong Song from Refinitiv Carbon Research team to discuss the opportunities and challenges brought by the restart of CCER.

Lunch Meeting with H.E. Frans Timmermans, executive vice president of the European Commission
On 4th July, H.E. Jorge Toledo, ambassador of the European Union (EU) to China, hosted a working lunch to welcome H.E. Frans Timmermans, executive vice president (EVP) of the European Commission, who leads the Commission’s work on the European Green Deal. Gianni Di Giovanni, States' Representative of the European Chamber Executive Committee, attended the working lunch.

On 13th June 2023, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter co-organised the 'Green Transition Through Innovation and Energy Efficiency' conference with the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai and Business Sweden as part of Sweden’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The conference was organised as a side event of the 2023 Shanghai International Carbon Neutral Technology, Products and Achievements Expo hosted by the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai. Mr. Chunting Gu, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT Shanghai) provided a keynote speech on the importance of China-EU collaboration on the Green Transition.
Focusing on the importance of energy efficiency in driving the green transition, the conference featured a panel discussion moderated by Zipei Xu, Environment Vice Chair and panelists from various European Chamber members: Air Liquide, Alfa Laval, Powercell as well as several Chinese counterparts, Shenergy and Sinopec.
Shanghai Carbon Expo: Roundtable on Interpreting EU Sustainable Development Policies with SHCCPIT
On 13th June, Ms Sarah Yu, Environment Working Group Vice Chair presented a keynote on EU-China collaboration on the Green Transition and hosted a roundtable at the EY 'Roundtable on Interpreting EU Sustainable Development Policies.' As part of the Shanghai Carbon Expo, this event also featured an opening speech from Mr. Chunting Gu, vice president of Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai.
As a leader in actively addressing global climate change, the EU has long been actively promoting the establishment of sustainable development-related legislation and policies, including the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), EU Plastic Packaging Tax and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will become an important key factor affecting international trade in the future and impose higher sustainability management requirements on multinational enterprises and Chinese exporters. The roundtable on "Interpreting EU Sustainable Development Policies" aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the impact of EU sustainable development policies and help domestic enterprises to better "go global" and proactively meet the opportunities and challenges brought by EU sustainable development policies.
European Chamber Spoke at the First Sino-European Carbon Neutrality and Green Sustainable Development Conference
On 19th April, the European Chamber Carbon Market Working Group Vice Chair Richard Lin and Environment Working Group National Chair Xiaojun Huang spoke at the First Sino-European Carbon Neutrality and Green Sustainable Development Conference in Shanghai, hosted by China Environment Chamber of Commerce (CECC).
